Man charged after failing sobriety test given by Tennessee Highway Patrol

31-year-old Joshua Scruggs was charged with DUI and several other charges after he was detained during a vehicle search and performed poorly on a field sobriety test.

On October 26, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Alex Snider assisted Stewart County deputies with a traffic stop at Joiner Hollow Road on Highway 79. Trooper Snider spoke with the driver, Joshua Scruggs, who appeared to have bloodshot eyes and heavy eyelids.

Deputies detained Joshua after searching his vehicle and the THP trooper was asked to conduct a sobriety test. Joshua performed poorly on two of the exercises he was given.

Joshua Scruggs was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, falsifying a drug test, unlawful drug paraphernalia, simple possession, window tint, and three counts of possession without a prescription. He was later released on a $4,000 bond.
