Speeder’s car reeks of reefer; search yields stolen gun

20-year-old Torrian Cain was charged with possession of stolen property, driving uninsured, and speeding after he was pulled over for speeding and found with a stolen gun in his car.

On October 20th, Stewart County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Page spotted a vehicle doing 59 mph in a 45-mph zone and initiated a traffic stop. He made contact with the driver, Torrian Cain, and asked for his license, insurance, and registration. Cain provided all items, but his insurance had expired in February.

Deputy Page noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Cain then explained he had smoked in the car two weeks before. Deputy Page asked him to exit the car to perform a probable cause search, which yielded a Smith & Wesson 9mm Handgun, found on the driver’s floorboard. The gun was run through the database and verified to be stolen out of Conway, Arkansas. Cain stated the gun belonged to a friend, but he could not name him.

Torrian Cain was arrested and charged with speeding, driving uninsured, and possession of stolen property. He was later released on a $3,000 bond.
