57-year-old Mark Berlin was charged with filing a false report and domestic assault after he claimed that two women broke into his house to attack him, but deputies noticed his girlfriend was the one injured.
On October 24th, Stewart County Sheriff’s Deputy Patrick Weber responded to reports of an assault at 114 Scotts Chapel Road. Deputy Weber reported when he arrived he made contact with Mark Berlin. Mark stated two women showed up at his residence, one of them hitting him in the head with a wooden stick. Deputy Weber then questioned Mark’s girlfriend.

The deputy noted Mark’s girlfriend had a small laceration on her right temple. When he asked Mark Berlin to put his hands behind his back, he tried to pull away from the deputy. The girlfriend later reported that Mark had pushed her, causing her to fall down, hit her head, and bleed.
Mark Berlin was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, domestic assault, and filing a false report. He was released on a $9,500 bond.
