Man charged after Tennessee Highway Patrol performs field sobriety test at crash site

20-year-old Matthew Westerman was charged with driving under the influence and violation of implied consent after he crashed his vehicle and a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper noticed he appeared intoxicated.

On November 9th, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Javier Allen responded to a crash on Indian Mound Road. Trooper Allen made contact with the driver, Matthew Westerman, and asked him to come towards him.

Matthew appeared to be unsteady on his feet as he made his way to him. Trooper Allen conducted field sobriety tests, in which Matthew performed poorly. He was then taken into custody and refused to give a blood sample.

Matthew Westerman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and violation of implied consent law. His bond was set at $2,500.
